Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Offers a Summer Worth of Outdoor Fun

Summer’s here … and the time is right for dancing on Yerba Buena Gardens lawn.

The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival is back for 2022 to provide visitors with lunchtime and weekend entertainment from now through late October. As always, all events are free.

The festival provides a little something for everyone – concerts, kids shows, dance performances and instruction, poetry, DJ classes and more. The performances reflect the rich cultures and creativity of the Bay Area.

“After no Festival in 2020 and a limited season in 2021, I am so excited that we are able to present this exuberant full season of new programs and activations,” said Festival Executive/Artistic Director Linda Lucero. “The Festival is proud to commission new musical and performance programs specifically designed for the Gardens and to support our artistic community. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.”

In July alone, YBG Festival will feature concerts by Eva Salina & Peter Stan, The Ayala Project, Nomad Session, Edgardo Cambon and Maria Jose Montijo; and children’s shows by Ka-Hon, Coventry & Kaluza, Calvin Kai Ku, Unique Derique and Circus of Smiles.

Other events include outdoor dance classes led by Rhythm & Motion, Poetic Tuesdays with MOAD, SF Uke Jam, YBG Choreofest, Lunch Breaks & Beats with Fingersnaps Media Arts, and a performance by the San Francisco Mime Troupe.

As its website points out, there is no chance of the events “selling out,” and there’s no need for advance registration and RSVPs. Simply check out the schedule and drop by for the events that pique your interest.

The majority of the seating is open lawn on the YBG Esplanade. Venue chairs are provided for most events, but visitors are also encouraged to bring blankets and low lawn chairs.

One last thing – have fun!
